Multi-Psyche Islamic Psychology Model

Psychology is a term coined by the West, and Muslims have different opinions on psychology. Some accept Western psychology as it is, some feel that changes must be made so that it can be more effective on the Muslims, and there are also some who reject psychology as un-Islamic. The Muslims have practised science of psychology over a thousand years ago when it was known as ilm al-nafs.

There are many efforts nowadays to define Islamic psychology so that it is more “Islamic” and “Muslim-friendly”. Any effort to define Islamic psychology must be based on Islamic epistemology and ontology. Whether we like it or not, we have to include the impacts of the unseen, e.g. jinn, on the human mind. Current models of Islamic psychology shuns away from incorporating jinn in the model. This omission will definitely make the model incomplete or incorrect. Any therapy based on an incomplete or incorrect models will not be very effective.

So, how do you add the impact of jinn on human psychology? Read our paper “Multi-psyche Islamic Psychology Model as Foundation for Islamic Psychotherapy Approaches”. The paper, together with other paper that we have published, can be downloaded from the Downloads section.
